United for Access is the first national grassroots campaign by Thinx and PERIOD, the world’s largest youth-run nonprofit (500 chapters and counting!) dedicated to advancing menstrual equity for young people across the United States. Alongside PERIOD, we commissioned the foremost study about the period poverty US students face — the results in our report show that the fight for menstrual equity is more necessary than ever.

Together we’re circulating petitions in cities across the country demanding that every student in the United States—from grade school through college—has free and easy access to period products. The fact is, no one should have to miss out on an education because of their period.

the
challenge

=======

"Period products are not luxuries,
they are basic necessities."

From Nepal to Uganda to New York City, millions of people around the world live in period poverty, unable to afford basic necessities to manage menstruation. In fact, our study revealed that 1 in 5 teens struggle to access period products and 84% of teens have either missed class or know someone who’s missed class due to a lack of access.

Access to period products determines a person’s freedom to work, study, and move about the world with basic dignity. No one would ever be expected to bring their own toilet paper or soap into a bathroom, and period products are just as much of a necessity.

The time to end period poverty is now.

This is a solvable problem we can fix together.

the solution

Our mission at Thinx is to empower *every body*, and that’s why we’re advocating for a sustainable, scalable solution to ending period poverty. Together with PERIOD, we are:

=

Demanding that every student across the United States—from grade school through college—has free and easy access to period products.

=

Revolutionizing the way people talk and think about periods, and the challenges faced by people with them.

To date, we’ve shifted five local policies and added hundreds of thousands of signatures to our national petition.

Thinx and PERIOD activists rally outside the Department of Education building to call on Secretary Betsy DeVos prioritize menstrual equity for all US students
