Head of PR

THINX, a rapidly-growing company that is disrupting the feminine hygiene space with period-proof underwear, seeks a communications professional with a proven track record driving press coverage through innovative strategies to join its team as Head of PR.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute a proactive communications strategy that supports the company’s business and reputation objectives, working in close coordination with company leadership as well as the social media, marketing, partnership and events teams.
  • Develop messages and programs that capture and convey THINX’s unique mission, brand and business proposition – leveraging industry best practices for media relations, while also pushing beyond the expected with creative, surprising initiatives and strategies.
  • Act as primary media liaison and THINX company spokesperson, working directly with media to secure positive coverage of THINX’s products, leadership and company story.  This includes: conducting proactive outreach, fielding incoming inquiries and injecting the company into relevant trend stories and news.
  • Establish and grow relationships with print, online and broadcast media, spanning consumer, fashion/apparel industry, business, technology, innovation, feminist and women’s health press.
  • Develop written materials, including press pitches, Q&A’s, talking points, media statements, core messages, and other communications to key audiences.
  • Develop strategies to build thought leadership for THINX’s leaders, working to secure media profiles and high-impact speaking engagements.
  • Conduct ongoing communications planning to support key THINX’s initiatives, product launches, events and partnerships.
  • Monitor and track all press features and communication, establishing action points on content
  • Collaborate with internal events and partnership leads to execute press worthy brand experience
  • Support internal communications, in collaboration with HR, including developing employee communications

The Ideal Candidate:

  •  Is passionate about THINX’s feminist mission to break taboos around periods and change the conversation about menstruation.  
  • Can fully embody the unique THINX brand voice in written and verbal communications.  
  • Is a motivated, self-directed team player with excellent people, project management, and organizational skills.
  • Thrives in a rapidly-growing start-up environment and has the ability to handle multiple projects.
  • Is able to communicate clearly and persuasively both verbally and in writing.
  • Is a self-starter who can work well both independently and in teams.
  • Has fluency in Google suites and PR monitoring tools (Trendkite, Meltwater, MuckRack etc)

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • Five to seven years of professional experience in communications/public relations or a related field (e.g., journalism)
  • Track record of generating positive stories and driving “buzz” for a consumer brand, especially in the feminist and women’s health space.
  • Experience with managing reputational issues and mitigating negative press.
  • Ability to leverage social media platforms -- Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and other social networks – to amplify and drive positive press coverage.
  • Demonstrated commitment to or interest in feminism and women’s health.
  • Holds at least a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field from an accredited college or university
