1. Angela Davis Protests AFSPA In Kashmir, India.

Feminist activists from around the world are calling upon the Indian President Pranab Mukherjee to repeal the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) in Kashmir, India. Angela Davis, queen activist from the U.S. who flew to Kashmir to testify, called this act a symbol of oppression and unnecessary militarization, and echoes a larger feminist movement advocating for peace. 2. Syrian girl Bana Alabed Kept the World Informed About Aleppo Through Twitter

Bana Alabed kept the world informed about her daily life and struggle in Aleppo, Syria. The Twitter account, administered by her parents, was temporarily deactivated in early December, leaving her readers utterly distraught. This story does have a happy ending for our budding feminist journalist-- Bana and her family were evacuated with assistance from NGO workers. We look forward to seeing all of the wonderful things Bana will continue to do-- her strong voice and resilience cannot be silenced. We weren't the only ones moved by Bana-- J.K. Rowling was so moved by Bana's words that she sent her a digital Harry Potter book!

3. Latina Farmworker Honored With Award From Women's World Summit.

Hermila Treviño-Sauceda, a farmworker in rural California, was sexually assaulted while working hard for very little pay when she was a teenager. Now that she’s 58, she’s been granted an award for her work as the “leader of the women’s farmworker movement in the U.S.” by the Women’s World Summit Foundation. Her work has spanned decades, and we’re so glad that she is getting the recognition that she deserves! Read more here.

4. Gaining Ground: Global Feminist Movement To Change Judicial Systems.

According to Broadly, there’s a global movement of feminists working to remake the global judicial system into something that upholds gender equality. In response to the Brock Turner case over the summer, this movement--The Feminist Judgments Project--has been hard at work attempting to address injustice within the justice system. 5. Latina Artist Brings Audiences Together In The Name of Feminism.

A Peruvian artist based in Madrid, Maria Acha-Kutscher, decided to make art instead of war in the face of global division on issues of social justice. She’s decided that the politics of representation matter a lot in the realm of women’s issues, and so she began her iconic digital drawings of women activists in 2008 to show that women are a major part of shaping history.
