Lola Kirke's Small Style Detail Made a Big Impression Photo

One of the best parts about an award show is seeing your favorite actor or actress wear something that totally mystifies you. After all, fashion is art, right? At this year's Golden Globes, Lola Kirke’s small detail received lots of passionate response--a pin that subtly blended into the dress, with a, ahem, clear message about the Speaker of the US House of Representatives Paul Ryan.

It’s not difficult to understand why Kirke would have some choice words for Paul Ryan-- he announced the GOP’s plans to defund Planned Parenthood last Thursday. Kirke wasn’t shy about talking about Ryan on the red carpet.

“Paul Ryan is talking about defunding Planned Parenthood,” she told Elle Magazine. “I think that along with a number of other decisions that are being talked about being made by the new administration, is atrocious. As a person with a platform, no matter what size it is, I think it’s important to share your views and maybe elevate people that might agree with you, that maybe won’t feel like they can have the same voice. My body my choice, your body your choice.”

Kirke is obviously not the only one upset about Ryan’s declaration-- since he began talking about ending the Affordable Care Act in November, men and women have been contacting his office expressing their concern.

Kirke has clearly been thinking about this statement piece for some time, confirming on the red carpet that the pin was custom-made to be worn with her gown. "My stylist and her son made them for me. They made me one in the Planned Parenthood colors yesterday that I was wearing,” she told Elle.  I'm sure there will be other issues to support, but this one is really important."
