Billboard has released some exciting news regarding their Annual Women In Music award ceremony. Musician Kesha will be receiving Billboard's Women in Music Trailblazer award, following Hayley Williams  and Lana Del Rey.

"By combining artistic fearlessness with unbounded creative energy, Kesha has continually pushed the limits of what was once thought possible in pop music," said co-president and chief creative officer of The Hollywood Reporter-Billboard Media Group, Janice Min. "She's a force on stage, an inspiration in person and a true Trailblazer for millions of music fans around the world."

Kesha's win is especially poignant given her recent legal battles with producer Dr. Luke, who she accused of emotional and sexual abuse. Due to legal implications, it has been difficult for Kesha to record, release, and perform her music (her initial lawsuit was filed in 2014.) In February, fans started the viral hashtag #FreeKesha in regards to a Manhattan court ruling that did not allow her to be released from her contact with Dr. Luke. For several years Kesha, who has graced us all with 9 songs in the Billboard Top 10, 4 in the number-one spot. Her first single, Tik Tok, was #1 on the Billboard top 100 for 10 weeks and had the 5th most digital sales in history.

Since 2014, Kesha's voice was put on pause, and we weren't paying attention to the silence. Early this year, we did. Kesha has, in fact, been a trailblazer to the highest degree. She has been a role model for women to speak up, and hasn’t sugarcoated the process. It’s a long road, but Kesha has prevailed without losing herself or forfeiting her safety.

In July, Kesha began touring again, and while she hasn’t released any new music since 2012 Warrior, we keep our fingers crossed that this won’t be the case for too much longer.

Congrats to Kesha and her voice, on and off the stage.
