At Thinx, we take the safety of all our products, and the wellbeing of our customers, very seriously. We know the vagina is one of the most sensitive and absorbent areas of the body, which is why making period products that are free of harmful toxic chemicals is integral to our mission. It’s also why rigorous chemical testing and compliance certifications are part of our manufacturing process. In the words of our CEO, Maria Molland, “Our customers’ health and safety is our number one priority, and we will always work to deliver the safest products available.”
all Thinx underwear are rigorously tested for toxic chemicals
All Thinx underwear are REACH compliant and undergo testing that complies with the OEKO-TEX standard list of 100 chemicals. This includes testing for a range of toxic chemicals like PFAS (polyfluoroalkyl substances) that are linked to scary health problems like cancer and fertility issues. The truth is that US regulations aren’t as strict as those in the EU, which is why we comply with both US regulations and the EU’s REACH regulations. For example, while the US has banned 11 chemicals from cosmetics, REACH bans 1,328.
By complying with REACH, we’re also supporting REACH pre-market testing requirements — all to protect our customers’ safety and wellbeing. Our chemical testing is also done through a third party to ensure it’s honest and objective, and we’re proud of the fact that this testing has never detected any regulated toxic chemicals in Thinx underwear.
Thinx cotton underwear are certified organic
We designed our Organic Cotton line with customer comfort and safety in mind. All our Organic Cotton undies are OCS and GOTS-certified, which means even the farms we buy our cotton from are meeting organic certification standards, and our supply chain is carefully monitored to make sure the integrity of our cotton products never changes.
showing our work
In the spirit of complete transparency, we’re posting all of our results, as well as our OCS and GOTS certifications, at the bottom of this blog (you can also read the full results and certifications here). We’ll always go the extra mile to make sure our products meet the most rigorous industry standards for chemical testing, because we know that making safer period products is part of making a more equitable world for all people with periods.
To that end, we’re currently developing a holistic chemicals management program that will dramatically expand the list of chemicals we test for in our products. Our end goal is to always ensure the safety and wellbeing of our customers, across our entire family of brands. If any unregulated chemicals are ever found in our products, we will move swiftly to remove them.download full test results
