At Thinx, we take the safety of all our products, and the wellbeing of our customers, very seriously. We know the vagina is one of the most sensitive and absorbent areas of the body, which is why making period products that are free of harmful toxic chemicals is integral to our mission. It’s also why rigorous chemical testing and compliance certifications are part of our manufacturing process. In the words of our CEO, Maria Molland, “Our customers’ health and safety is our number one priority, and we will always work to deliver the safest products available.”
all Thinx underwear are rigorously tested for toxic chemicals
All Thinx Inc. underwear are independently certified through STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX®, which includes REACH requirements [20.HUS.04850 | HOHENSTEIN HTTI]. This includes testing for a range of toxic chemicals like PFAS (polyfluoroalkyl substances) that are linked to scary health problems like cancer and fertility issues. The truth is that US regulations aren’t as strict as those in the EU, which is why we comply with both US regulations and the EU’s REACH regulations. For example, while the US has banned 11 chemicals from cosmetics, REACH bans 1,328. By complying with REACH, we’re also supporting REACH pre-market testing requirements — all to protect our customers’ safety and wellbeing.
In alignment with our certifications and retailer regulations, our products are not made with nanoparticles, which can be migratory and potentially dangerous to the body. The anti-odor layer in our products is treated with Agion®, an EU regulated treatment containing safe, non-migratory silver zeolite and silver copper zeolite. Our chemical testing is also done through a third party to ensure it’s honest and objective, and we’re proud of the fact that this testing has never detected any regulated toxic chemicals in Thinx underwear.
showing our work
In the spirit of complete transparency, we’re posting all of our results at the bottom of this blog (you can also read the full results here). We’ll always go the extra mile to make sure our products meet the most rigorous industry standards for chemical testing, because we know that making safer period products is part of making a more equitable world for all people with periods.
To that end, we’re currently developing a holistic chemicals management program that will dramatically expand the list of chemicals we test for in our products. Our end goal is to always ensure the safety and wellbeing of our customers, across our entire family of brands.download full test results
